Lower Farm Road, Plympton – Garden and Driveway

project description

At Lower Farm Road in Plympton, the client sought a complete redesign of both the driveway and rear garden. The property had been partially worked on by a previous builder whose workmanship was below standard. The walls had been incorrectly positioned, and the client dismissed the builder before calling us in to rectify and complete the project.

A new resin driveway was installed in front of the annex, sloping downwards from the property. Because resin is fully permeable, no planning permission was required even though the area exceeded 25 square metres, and no additional drainage solutions were necessary.

The rear garden was completely restructured. Directly outside the back door, a resin patio was created with steps leading to either side, offering smooth access across different levels. The resin colours were chosen from the available range to match the property’s style. All surrounding walls were rebuilt, rendered in cream using silicone, and capped with apex coping stones, which were carefully jointed with sand and cement.

Additional landscaping work was undertaken to establish a functional and attractive outdoor space. Sleepers were installed to form raised flower beds, while a large section of the garden was turfed to offer a safe play area for children. Gates were also constructed as part of the project, ensuring security and privacy.

A unique consideration on this project was wildlife. The client had six to eight hedgehogs that regularly hibernated in the garden, so the design included access points and lower retaining levels to allow the animals to move freely. This ecological consideration was central to the project and was carefully incorporated into the landscaping.

The final outcome was a completely transformed exterior, featuring a robust, attractive resin driveway and patio, complemented by landscaped gardens, play areas, and wildlife-friendly elements. The client’s vision was realised in a way that balanced practicality, aesthetics, and environmental concerns.
