At Harewood Crescent, the client needed a complete renovation of their driveway and surrounding walls. The existing surfaces were unsuitable, and the garden walls were in poor condition. With extensive structural work required alongside the installation of a new resin driveway, this project called for both technical accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
Excavation was carried out to the required depth, after which a geotextile membrane was installed to stabilise the ground. A 100mm layer of Type 3 stone (40mm clean stone) was laid and compacted, followed by a 20mm capping layer of smaller chippings, also compacted. An SRM mesh system was then installed before applying VUBA Mac at 30mm depth to provide a robust base suitable for a driveway. A second layer of SRM mesh was added before the final resin surface was applied at 18–20mm thickness.
As part of the project, all surrounding walls were rebuilt. The rendering process involved applying a scratch coat with PVC beads and embedding nylon mesh to prevent cracking. This was followed by a second scratch coat and a smooth top coat, which was then primed and finished with a sprayed 1.5mm acrylic in dark grey. Apex coping stones were installed along the tops of the walls, bedded and jointed in sand and cement for a clean finish.
Drainage issues were also addressed during excavation. An old clay pipe near the porch was uncovered and replaced with a modern plastic pipe to prevent future cracking or failure. This ensured the driveway would remain structurally sound for the long term.
The outcome was a complete transformation: a robust, fully permeable resin driveway supported by the latest VUBA system, complemented by newly rebuilt and rendered walls with decorative coping stones. The client not only gained a driveway that was durable and visually striking but also saved significantly on costs compared to alternative quotes, which were more than double the final price.
